What to expect at JEC

Next week’s JEC World 2018 (March 6-8th) at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre is set to be the world’s largest and most important tradeshow devoted to the fast-expanding market for composite materials. The show itself has grown exponentially and is anticipating more than 40,600 delegates from an incredible range of industry sectors, including Aeronautics, Architecture, Building & Construction, Energy, Renewables, Automotive and Transportation, and even Sports and Leisure.

It’s little wonder that JEC World addresses such a wide variety of industries. Composite material is a term that can be applied to any material that is constituted from two or more materials, for example reinforced plastics such as fiberglass, ceramic and metal matrix composites and even reinforced concrete. Combining individual materials that have different chemical or physical properties, forms a new material that may be stronger, more durable, more flexible, and lighter than the original material, therefore suitable for a greater range of applications.

Innovations in composite materials are crucial to responding to the challenges of today’s world, from connectivity and the expanding ‘Smart’ industries to energy infrastructure. One of this year’s key themes will be sustainability, as now more than ever, composite materials are required to minimise the impact on the natural environment, as well as improving human lifestyles.
