Disruptive technologies: supporting game-changing businesses

It’s been roughly six months since we launched our new Incus agency website and with that, reaffirmed our market focus and expertise – supporting disruptive technology businesses. Since then, we’ve been fortunate to have had an amazing few months with new business enquiries rolling in and great successes across our existing client portfolio.

But what exactly does disruptive technology mean? Well to our minds, it means businesses with new technology innovations that set out to change and disrupt a market, or indeed start a new one.

A typical example of this includes Apple and its iPod, iPhone and iPad products. Technologies that have completely redefined how we listen to and store music, use a mobile phone as well as access the internet. And of course, these technologies have now been refined and replicated to feature in almost all other tablets and mobile devices available today.

Indeed, such has been the proliferation of this advanced mobile technology, that it has almost replaced all the other handheld devices we once used. These include cameras, video cameras, music devices, calculators, sat navs, torches, compasses, games consoles, newspapers and magazines, alarm clocks and airline tickets. You name it and there’s probably an app for it out there somewhere.

We now take it for granted, but these innovations have literally changed the lives of millions of people around the world. So, could we live without these innovations today? For most, the answer would be, no.

But what does it take to create a disruptive technology. Most disruptive technologies are devised by entrepreneurs – but not your average entrepreneurs. These are people with incredible vision and foresight. People that truly understand a market and can see how to do something different – to solve a problem or simply to create extraordinary results.

Generally speaking, these people are not financially restricted by corporate governance or the need to meet short term shareholder value. They have incredible creativity, passion and dedication. They also build a team of likeminded experts around them, and if they find good people, they don’t let them go.

In developing our own business, we realised that we love to support people and businesses such as these. People that inspire us. Working with companies who are as passionate as we are about making a genuine difference to the markets we serve. Helping them to define their stories, providing them with the tools to launch successfully and being a part of their journey as they evolve into credible brands within industry. It’s this integrated approach to our client relations that enables us to adapt our PR and Marketing campaigns to meet their targets and opportunities.

Of course, we also help them to meet their challenges too. When introducing radical technology, disruptive technology businesses often face a level of market pressure and competitive campaigning, not felt by other businesses. Effectively managing this kind of activity requires a specialist skill-set.

As we look towards 2017, we reflect on our successes and our learnings and try to predict the year ahead. Never an easy task. But, seemingly one thing is quite clear – there appears to be an appetite for not only disruptive and radical technologies, but a similar influence in politics and world leadership – Brexit and President Trump being recent evidence of this. Whilst time will tell as to the success of those political votes, we are excited to see what new disruptive technologies will emerge over the 12 months, and how they might influence our lives.

PEOPLE SAY...

“I have worked in industrial journalism for over three decades and therefore feel I can comment with a fair degree of experience on the merits of the communications I receive on behalf of technology suppliers and implementers. On that basis I have no hesitation in commending Incus Media very highly as an organisation that serves both its clients and the media very well. I find I can rely on it not just to supply well-written pertinent background information but also to facilitate direct constructive contact with its clients when appropriate. Its staff are also friendly and approachable as well as efficient and effective.”
