Noria Launches Airon™ Floating Solar Tracker Delivering up to 20% More Energy than Traditional Fixed-Tilt Systems, Targeting the Same Installed Cost

  • First commercial demonstration planned for late 2026, with customer shipments beginning in mid-2027
  • Noria now operates as a product-focused floating solar technology company with Sunrock Distributed Generation and AccuSolar as strategic investors and partners

SAUSALITO, Calif. — 9 September 2026 — Noria Energy today announced the launch of Airon™, a U.S.-made floating solar tracker designed to deliver up to 20% more energy than conventional fixed-tilt floating solar systems – at the same installed cost.

By enabling floating solar panels to follow the sun throughout the day, Airon is designed to generate more electricity without increasing a project’s nameplate capacity. Noria plans to install its first commercial pilot in late 2026, in addition to its existing demonstration project, with shipments of its certified commercial product to customer sites beginning in mid-2027.

The launch marks Noria’s emergence as an independent product company focused on commercializing Airon. Sunrock Distributed Generation will remain a strategic investor and development partner for its pipeline of solar and storage projects. AccuSolar also joins as a strategic investor and manufacturing partner with U.S. manufacturing capabilities.

Bringing Solar Tracking to the Water

Airon arrives as rising U.S. electricity demand collides with growing constraints on land, grid capacity and community support for new energy projects. Floating solar enables developers to deploy new generation on reservoirs, industrial ponds, water-treatment basins and other managed water bodies, without requiring additional land. Projects may also benefit from proximity to electrical infrastructure and, in some cases, reduce water evaporation.

“Floating solar can turn underused water surfaces into productive energy assets without competing for valuable land,” said Alex Mayer, CEO of Noria Energy. “With Airon, we are bringing the energy-production advantages of solar tracking to the water – giving customers up to 20% more energy at the same installed cost as a fixed-tilt system. This makes floating solar more productive, scalable and commercially attractive.”

Most floating solar systems use panels installed at a fixed angle. Airon introduces horizontal single-axis tracking to the water, enabling panels to follow the sun throughout the day and generate more electricity from the same installed capacity. This additional production can be particularly valuable for projects constrained by available water surface or grid interconnection capacity.

Airon builds on established ground-mounted PV-tracker principles, but has been engineered specifically for conditions on water, where equipment must withstand wind, waves, changing water levels and anchoring loads. The tracker uses a low-profile design, passive stabilizers and automatic stowing during severe weather. With fewer components and connection points, Airon is designed to simplify installation and reduce potential points of failure. Contractors can install the system using equipment and construction methods already familiar to solar engineering, procurement and construction companies, without specialized tools.

Airon is being developed for both utility-scale installations and distributed projects supplying electricity to nearby commercial, industrial, agricultural and public-sector customers.

From Field Testing to Commercial Deployment

Noria has worked in floating solar since 2018, developing and testing its technology through progressively larger pilot projects. In 2025, Noria and its partners launched a 50-kilowatt Aurea Solar project at Fairmount Reservoir in Golden, Colorado. The project was designed to power water-utility operations while testing floating solar tracking under real-world conditions.

Airon is the next step: translating the engineering and operational experience gained through these projects into a standardized product that developers, EPCs, insurers and financing partners can evaluate using established solar-industry processes. The commercial demonstration planned for late 2026 will enable Noria to further validate Airon’s energy performance, storm response, and reliability and maintenance requirements ahead of commercial shipments.

U.S. Manufacturing from the Start

Noria is developing Airon around a domestic supply chain and regional U.S. manufacturing network. This approach is intended to shorten lead times, reduce transportation requirements, and give customers easier access to replacement components.

Domestic sourcing is also designed to help support customers seeking to comply with applicable U.S. domestic content and foreign entity-of-concern requirements.

Backed by Sunrock and AccuSolar

Airon’s commercialization is supported by Sunrock Distributed Generation and AccuSolar. Sunrock will co-develop and provide financing for future floating solar projects using Airon, alongside its continuing role as a strategic investor in Noria. AccuSolar and its affiliate AccuDock bring experience from thousands of floating-structure installations worldwide, adding manufacturing and marine engineering expertise to Noria’s floating solar and product development capabilities.

“Noria has developed a practical solution to one of floating solar’s biggest opportunities: generating more power from a limited project footprint,” said Wilson Chang, CEO of Sunrock Distributed Generation.  “Sunrock is proud to continue supporting Noria’s innovations to solar technology as a strategic partner as Airon progresses from field testing into commercial deployment.”

Jason Harrison, Founder and CEO of AccuSolar, comments, “We’re excited to partner with Noria to expand the options available for floating solar across the U.S. and we look forward to bringing our manufacturing and marine expertise to help scale this technology.”

Floating solar remains an emerging U.S. sector, with permitting, insurance and operating standards still developing. But the potential market is significant. Research led by the National Laboratory of the Rockies found that global floating solar capacity surpassed 13 gigawatts by 2022. NLR also estimates that federally controlled U.S. reservoirs alone could technically support hundreds of gigawatts of floating solar.

As data centers, manufacturers, water utilities and other large energy users seek new sources of electricity close to their operations, managed water bodies offer a largely untapped opportunity. Noria’s goal with Airon is to unlock more of that opportunity by helping every floating solar panel produce more power at the same installed cost as fixed-tilt systems.
